SCARY Leadership

One day before Halloween, students in Leadership Communication Theories contemplated “scary” leadership. The class received an in-depth look at the components of malevolent leadership, exploring findings from a global study. In this study, subjects from many nations around the world had common answers on which qualities make a bad leader “scary.” After spending time reflecting on this study, students worked in small groups to create their own model of a scary leader. Choosing and using a word such as SCARY, SPOOKY or MONSTROUS as an acronym, each small group created a list of the qualities that make a leader scary to them. In addition, each group crafted a piece of artwork to bring their scary leader to life. A representative from each group shows their group’s picture of a scary leader.
